Alright, so I decided to jump on this project, remaking the YSL June Box Bag. I’d seen it around, thought it looked pretty slick, and figured, why not give it a shot? Plus, I was itching to get my hands dirty with a new DIY project.
First off, I started digging around to see what this bag was all about. I mean, this YSL Saint Laurent Bag ain’t your grandma’s purse. It’s got that luxury vibe, but also that hefty price tag. I’m talking about big bucks. I found out that getting your hands on a YSL bag without emptying your whole pocketbook can mean going for a used one, a sale bag, a look-alike, or even a trip to Paris. I wasn’t planning any trips to Paris soon, so I ruled that out. Also, changes in material costs, labor, and economic conditions can influence pricing, and luxury brands often adjust their prices to reflect these changes. I just wanted to make my own, so I didn’t care much about these things.
Then, I got down to actually making the thing. I started by gathering all the materials I needed. I managed to find some pretty decent leather that wouldn’t break the bank. I mean, I wasn’t going for the exact quality of a real YSL, but something that still looked good. This wasn’t a Nano Classic Souple Sac De Jour Tote, but it still needed to have that classy feel.
- Leather: Got some good quality stuff from a local supplier.
- Lining: Picked a soft fabric that felt nice to the touch.
- Thread: Heavy-duty, so the bag would hold up well.
- Hardware: Found some cool buckles and a chain strap online. This one was described as “micro bag decorated with the CASSANDRE and diamond-quilted topstitching. Featuring a chain strap.” Sounded fancy, so I went for it.
Getting to Work
I sketched out the design, making sure I had all the measurements right. Then, I cut out the leather pieces, stitched them together – which, by the way, took way longer than I expected. Hand-stitching leather is no joke! But seeing it come together was pretty satisfying. I added the lining, making sure it was all neat and tidy inside.
Next up was the hardware. I attached the buckles and the chain strap. The chain was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it on there securely. It’s described as “featuring a chain strap,” and let me tell you, that strap really makes the bag look legit.
The diamond-quilted topstitching was the last part. I’d seen it on the original YSL bag and thought it added a nice touch. It was a bit of a pain to do, but totally worth it in the end. It gave the bag that extra bit of flair.
The Final Result
After all that work, the bag was finally done. And I gotta say, I was pretty proud of how it turned out. It wasn’t an exact replica, but it definitely had that YSL vibe. I even found similar items online, like those at Saks OFF 5TH, where they have a wide selection of Saint Laurent Handbags & Wallets for Women, up to 70% off. But making it myself? Way more satisfying.
So, there you have it. My journey of remaking the YSL June Box Bag. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a cool new bag to show off. If you’re thinking about trying something like this, I say go for it. Just be prepared for a bit of hard work – and a lot of hand-stitching!
