Is the RemakePRADA Bag Worth It? (Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather is a Classic Style)

Okay, so I got this idea to recreate a Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag. You know, the classic style. It seemed like a fun challenge, and I’ve always been a bit of a DIY enthusiast. Plus, who doesn’t love a good designer bag? But making one from scratch? That’s a whole different story.

First things first, I gathered all the materials. I went on a hunt for some good quality Saffiano leather, or at least something that looked pretty close. I found a decent piece online, which saved me from having to run around town. I also picked up some sturdy lining fabric, a zipper, and some gold-colored hardware to match the real deal. Of course, I needed a pattern, so I studied the bag on my screen and sketched it out. Then I realized I need a sewing machine, so I borrowed one from my friend. It’s not new but still works well.

Cutting the leather was the next big step. I laid out my pattern pieces, double-checked everything, and started cutting. It was a bit nerve-wracking, honestly. Leather isn’t cheap, and I really didn’t want to mess it up. I used a rotary cutter, and it helped a lot with getting clean, straight lines. After that, I cut out the lining fabric, which was way easier than the leather.

Then came the sewing part, which was probably the most time-consuming. I started with the smaller pieces, like the handles and the zipper panels. Once I got those done, I moved on to the main body of the bag. Putting the lining together was a breeze compared to the leather. I sewed the leather and lining together. Pinning the pieces together before sewing was super important to keep everything aligned. Then, I used a heavy-duty needle for the machine. Stitching the lining to the leather was a bit tricky, especially around the corners, but I took it slow and managed to get it done without too much trouble.

The next step was attaching the hardware. I’d bought some rings and a little Prada-like logo, which I carefully attached to the bag. It’s all about the details, right? This was a bit fiddly, but I used some strong glue and made sure everything was secure. After that, I put a zipper on the top.

  • Leather Pieces: Cut and ready.
  • Lining: Sewn and looking good.
  • Hardware: Attached and shiny.
  • Zipper: In place and functional.

Finally, I sewed the front and back panels to the sides, and voila, the bag was taking shape! It wasn’t perfect, and there were definitely a few moments where I had to use the seam ripper, but overall, I was pretty proud of how it was turning out. The last touch was adding a long strap so I could wear it crossbody. And I need to check every seam.

The Final Result

And there you have it! My homemade version of the Prada Galleria Mini-Bag. It’s not an exact replica, but I think it captures the essence of the original. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. It’s definitely a unique piece, and I learned a ton about working with leather and bag construction along the way. Would I do it again? Maybe. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy carrying my new bag around town. And I think it looks great!
