Okay, here’s the blog post about my experience remaking the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag:
So, I saw this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag in a specialty store the other day, and I thought, “Hey, I can probably make that!” I’m always up for a good crafting challenge, and this seemed like a fun one. Plus, who doesn’t love a good designer bag, especially when you can make it yourself?
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some Saffiano leather. That stuff is not exactly cheap, let me tell you. But I found a decent-sized piece online after a fair bit of searching. Once I got the leather, I started sketching out the pattern. I used a bunch of pictures of the original bag to make sure I got all the details right. It wasn’t easy, I spent more time than I’d like to admit comparing the measurements.
Next, I cut out all the pieces, being super careful not to mess up. Cutting leather is way harder than cutting fabric, by the way. It takes a strong hand and a sharp blade. Anyway, after what felt like forever, I finally had all the pieces ready to go.
Then came the sewing. Oh boy, the sewing. I used my trusty old sewing machine, which struggled a bit with the thick leather, but we managed. I had to go really slow, making sure every stitch was perfect. I even got a new friend – the seam ripper – because believe me, you’re gonna make mistakes. I learned that the hard way.
- Sewing the sides: This was tricky because of the bag’s structured shape. I had to be careful not to stretch the leather too much.
- Attaching the handles: The handles had to be super sturdy, so I reinforced them with extra stitching. Don’t want those falling off!
- Adding the lining: I used a nice soft fabric for the lining to make it feel luxurious. It’s all about those little details, you know?
The hardware was a whole other challenge. I wanted to get those signature PRADA triangle logos, but finding those was a mission in itself. I ended up ordering some metal pieces online and hand-painted them, it’s not exactly the same but it’s close enough. I was so proud when I finished painting the logo.
Finally, after many late nights and a few accidental finger pricks, the bag was done! It took way longer than I expected, but I’m pretty darn proud of how it turned out. I also attached the logo to the bag, that’s the soul of the bag.
It’s not exactly like the original, but it’s got that same vibe. And the best part? I made it myself! It’s a good feeling to carry something you’ve created with your own two hands. Plus, I saved a ton of money. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also a really rewarding experience. Now I know I can create any bag if I want. What a cool feeling!
