So, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and I got this idea to try and make a pretty good fake Rolex, specifically the Black Submariner. It’s a classic, right? Everyone knows it. I wanted to see if I could get it pretty close to the real thing, without spending a fortune, of course.
First, I did some digging. I mean, I watched a bunch of videos and read a ton of stuff online. There’s a lot of info out there about how to spot a fake Rolex, which is kinda ironic, but helpful. You wouldn’t believe how many fakes are floating around. It’s crazy. So, after I felt like I had a decent idea of what to look for, I started hunting.
- I hit up all these online shops and forums where people sell watch parts.
- It’s a bit of a wild west out there, but I found some sellers that seemed legit.
- I ordered the case, the bracelet, the dial, the hands, the bezel – basically all the bits and pieces. I tried to find the best quality stuff I could without going totally broke.
The waiting was the worst part. It took weeks for everything to arrive, and it came in all these separate packages from different places. Once I had everything laid out, I was like, “Okay, time to put this puzzle together.”
The Assembly
I’m not gonna lie, it was tricky. I watched some more videos to see how it’s supposed to be done. I even bought some cheap watch tools online. The hardest part was getting the movement in. That’s the little engine inside that makes the watch tick. I got a decent one, not Swiss, but it was good enough. After a lot of careful work, and a few close calls where I almost scratched the dial, I managed to get it all together.
When I finally got it ticking, it was a real “Eureka!” moment. I wound it up, set the time, and there it was – my very own “Rolex” Black Submariner. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. The weight was right, the feel of the bracelet was good, and the bezel clicked just like it should. It was a solid piece of work.
Now, I’m not trying to fool anyone or sell it as a real Rolex. That’s not my game. It’s more of a personal project, a challenge to see if I could do it. And honestly, it’s kind of a cool conversation starter. People are always surprised when I tell them it’s a fake I put together myself.
This whole thing taught me a lot about watches, and it gave me a new appreciation for the real deal. Those things are works of art. But hey, it’s also kinda fun to tinker and make something yourself. Would I do it again? Maybe. There are other Rolex models out there that are tempting. But for now, I’m happy with my Black Submariner. It’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s about the journey, not just the destination, and it’s pretty satisfying to see something you built with your own hands.
