Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso for a while now. It’s just such a classic, you know? I mean, it’s called “Reverso” because you can flip the case around – it’s from the Latin “I turn around”. Pretty cool, right?
Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger. Jaeger-LeCoultre released some new Reverso models in late September. They call this one the “Reverso Tribute Monoface” and I guess it’s supposed to look like the original from 1931. Looks pretty close to me, I really dig the vintage vibe.
I was at one of the specialty stores looking at this beauty. It had to be done. I started by trying it on, of course. Felt amazing on the wrist. Not too heavy, not too light. The size was perfect, even though I have bigger wrists. I took some pics while I was at it. I mean, you gotta document this stuff, right?
Then, I started thinking, should I go for a Rolex instead? Both are pretty respected brands. Rolex is, like, the king of reliability and classic designs. And they make their own movements, which is cool. But, then again, Jaeger-LeCoultre, man, their designs are just on another level. Their movements are more innovative, I think. And the entry price is a bit easier to swallow.
The whole thing reminded me of that Geophysic model from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Super rare, I heard they only made like a thousand of them, and they were only in production for a year before they switched to the Geomatic. You barely ever see them for sale. This Reverso felt like a similar kind of deal, like a piece of history or something.
So I went for it. Bought the damn watch. I had also looked at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Club line, which is more of an entry-level thing from the 70’s, but they had some interesting styles, but it just wasn’t the same. I decided on the Reverso, and it felt good.
Here’s what I did, step-by-step:
- Went to the Jaeger-LeCoultre specialty store.
- Tried on the Reverso Tribute Monoface.
- Took a bunch of pictures.
- Compared it mentally to a Rolex and that old Geophysic model.
- Looked at the JLC Club line but decided against it.
- Bought the Reverso.
It was a pretty big day. I documented the whole process, and I’m pretty stoked about the purchase. It’s a beautiful watch, and I think I made the right choice.
